Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim
In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

Ya Ali Madad. Please accept our heartfelt felicitations on the occasion of the upcoming visit of Noor Mowlana Hazar Imam to Western Canada. On Tuesday, October 16, 2018, Mowlana Hazar Imam will attend a special, private ceremony for the inauguration of the Aga Khan Garden, Alberta, to be presided over by the Honorable Rachel Notley, Premier of Alberta. The Aga Khan Garden is located at the University of Alberta Botanic Garden at Devon, Alberta. This facility is about 45 minutes from downtown Edmonton.

Mowlana Hazar Imam will also be awarded an honorary degree by the University of Calgary in Calgary on Wednesday, October 17, 2018. He will be awarded honorary degrees by the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University in joint ceremony in Vancouver on Friday, October 19, 2018. He is being recognized for the voluminous work that he has done over the past 61 years to improve the quality of life of peoples around the world through the Aga Khan Development Network as well as remarkable achievements in many fields such as health, education, finance, civil society, Islamic architecture, environment, agriculture and forestry. The University of Alberta in Edmonton awarded a honorary doctorate degree to Mowlana Hazar Imam in 2009, thus the major universities in Alberta and British Columbia have recognized our Mowlana Hazar Imam's work. Al-Hamdulillah, these events are a source of immense happiness for the Noorani family and the Global Jamat.

Allâhumâ salli alâ Muhammadin wa âle Muhammad (O Allah! Bestow Peace on and through Muhammad and his Descendants).

Knowledge Section

According to the University of Alberta Botanic Garden website: 'The Aga Khan Garden, Alberta is a garden for all people, of all ages and backgrounds, to connect with each other and the beauty of nature. It is a living symbol of hope, peace and unity — a place where understanding takes root'. To this, I would like to add an additional dimension —It is also a place to express gratitude as described in the following verses of the Holy Quran:

Footnote:

1989
However much man may prepare the soil and sow the seed or plant a tree but unless the forces of nature help him, which are God's own and are affected only be His independent will, nothing could profit man, in getting any produce from the earth or to do anything else in the world. Hence whatever grains or fruits man eats, are the products of God's willed functions of the natural forces in the formulation of which energies and their working in perfect harmony with each other, there is not hand of anyone else besides Him. Should not man be grateful to God?

The famous quatrain of the world renowned classical Persian poet 'Sa'di' which can be aptly quoted here:

1. "The cloud, the wind, the moon, the sun and the heavens are busy,
2. To see that thou get a loaf in thy hand so eat it not ignorantly,
3. All these have been made to worry themselves and subservient for thy sake,
4. Never would it be fair if thou proveth not thyself obedient to Him (the Beneficent Lord)."
