In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

Ya Ali Madad! On the occasion of the commemoration of the great spiritually uplifting event of Idd-e-Milad un-Nabi, the birthday of our Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.s.), please accept our heartfelt felicitations! May all Muslims and humanity at large be bestowed with peace, prosperity, happiness, barakat, higher spiritual enlightenment, spiritual & luminous tayid (help)! Ameen.

For this post, I have used Qasidas of Da'i al-Du'at Al-Mu'ayyad fi'l-Din al-Shirazi which are published in the IIS book entitled 'Mount of Knowledge, Sword of Eloquence' by Mohammad Adra (ISBN 978 1 84885 913 5). Al-Mu'ayyad fi'l-Din al-Shirazi was one of the most distinguished and gifted personalities of the Ismaili religious and political mission, the da'wa, under the Fatimids. He spent most of his life serving the Caliph-Imam al-Mustansir bi'llah (who reigned from 427 to 487 AH/ 1036 to 1094 AD) as a da'i or missionary-agent.

Pir Shihabu'd-Din Shah Al-Husayni (a.s.) was the son of our 47th Imam, Noor Mowlana Shah Ali Shah (a.s.). He died prematurely in May 1885 while he was still under the age of 40 years. He wrote the book entitled 'Risala Dar Haqiqat-i-Din' which was translated from Persian to English by W. Ivanow. I have used a couple of excerpts from his book entitled 'True meaning of Religion'.

Part 1: Description of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.s.)

Here is an excerpt from Da'i Al-Mu'ayyad's Qasida number 46 (p.191):

And here is Allah's Messenger (Muhammad), the most honourable, whom the recorders are incapable of describing correctly.	....30
He is the best of creatures by origin and descent, the noblest soul and the most perfect being.	....31
He established the pillars of religion, right conduct and guidance, and erased the abode of infidelity by (means of) the Truth.	....32

Part 2: Teachings of Pir Shihabu'd-Din Shah Al-Husayni (a.s.)

Here are a couple of excerpts from Chapter 7 : 'Itrat, or Close Relatives':

"Muhammad and 'Ali were manifestations of the one and same Divine Light, but they came in two different persons (libas, —dress) in order to uphold each other's mission amongst humans, and in order to introduce each other to the people." (p.25)   "The sacred Light which manifested in Muhammad and 'Ali continued through Fatima, in her sons, Hasan and Husayn, and no power in the world can extinguish this Light. It is said: 'they wanted to extinguish the Light of God, but God brings His Light through, to the end', i.e., to the completion of its mission." (p.25)

Part 3: Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.s.) and His Descendants

Here is an excerpt from Da'i Al-Mu'ayyad's Qasida number 51 (pp. 199-200):

I hold fast to the rope of Muhammad's descendants, in religion and life through (you). O the king of kings.	....11
The king of kings is the right hand of Muhammad's progeny, the refuge of all people, the pillar of God's religion.	....12
Two good fortunes, one (the Prophet) lies behind me, the other (the Imam) is always available to me in the world.	....13

Part 4: Da'i Al-Mu'ayyad's Trust and Source of Strength

Here is Da'i Al-Mu'ayyad's Qasida number 53 (p.203):

Allah alone suffices me and upon Him is my trust	....1
My hope is al-Mustafa, who is second to Allah in fulfilling all my wishes.	....2
And (also) 'Ali, Fatima and the lords, the descendants of 'Ali,	....3
And the Imam of the time, who is my guardian in religion.	....4
All of them are my strength in hardship, and by them is my sorrow removed.	....5

Part 5: Existence in Four Worlds

Ontology is the branch of metaphysics dealing with the nature of being. There are many models of existence described in our literature. However, the simplest one is as follows:

• Tier 1:The World of Matter (Nasut): We are living in a physical world and are engaged in voluminous, material activities.
   
  
• Tier 2: The World of Soul (Malakut): We believe that everything has a soul. Therefore, our task in this world is to nurture and purify our own soul and take it back to its origin. Malakut is the ocean of Universal Soul.
   
  
• Tier 3: The World of Light (Noor)(Jabrut): In order to be enlightened, the purified soul has to enter into this tier. Jabrut is the ocean of the Universal Intellect.
   
  
• Tier 4: The world of Oneness (Tawhid)(Lahut): This is the place where the subject merges into the object, thus the purified and enlightened soul merges into the glorious radiance of eternity.

Part 6: Supplication for help from Noore Ali, Mushkil Kusha

Noor Mowlana Shah Karim Al-Hussaini Hazar Imam (a.s.), in direct lineal descent from the Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.s.) through Hazrat Mawlana Ali (a.s.) and Hazrat Bibi Fatima (a.s.), is the forty-ninth Imam of the Ismaili Muslims. The sacred Light of Allah, which manifested in Prophet Muhammad Mustafa (s.a.s.) and Mowlana Murtaza 'Ali (a.s.), is manifested in him. The Holy Imam guides his followers through his Noor.

At present, humanity is facing a broad scope of problems. We can categorize some of these problems into three tiers:

• Tier 1: Global financial crisis and economic instability, higher unemployment, global unrest and threats to security, impacts of climate change, health issues of an aging population, accessibility to high quality education, governance of diverse societies, poverty, failed states, etc.
   
  
• Tier 2: Spiritually, we are seeking upliftment of the soul in face of intense pressures of globalization and materialism. We are struggling to nurture our souls in a hectic world; and
   
  
• Tier 3: We are seeking enlightenment, however this is only graced upon purified souls. To be enlightened, we have to become light borne. Noor Mowlana Hazar Imam has given us the dua for spiritual enlightenment. It is this higher spiritual enlightenment that has to continually guide us from within in all aspects of our lives. In other words, we have to carry the Light of Noor Mowlana Hazar Imam within ourselves! Therefore, we should practice our faith with conviction in order to enter into this tier.

In order for us to live a balanced life, we need relief from all kinds of difficulties. Innovative solutions can be found in the spiritual and luminous treasuries of Noor Mowlana Hazar Imam. Therefore, we have to seek solutions from Mowla's Light only.

Through the dhikr of 40 beads of Noore Ali Mushkil Kusha, Noore Ali, Hazar Imam, we are seeking to come close to Mowla's light. Specifically, we are trying to do the following.

• Firstly, we are increasing our consciousness to seek support from the Light of Ali by calling on the Light itself.
   
  
• Secondly, we do know that we have to use our intellect to solve our problems. However, we also have to be receptive so that the Universal Intellect (Aql-i Kulli), in form of Light, can inform our partial intellects (aql-i juz'i).
   
  
• Thirdly, we have to be extremely humble and become an ardent lover of Light in order to be graced with the its taste and vision. We also have to learn to work within the realm of the Light and understand that utmost purity, humility and obedience are required.
