Festival Greeting and Knowledge Section

Let us first reflect upon the following ayat from the Holy Qur'an and the associated footnote:

Footnote 608

"Vr. 4:125. (608) The best religion is the submission to God—i.e., Islam.

'Hanif', i.e., wholly devoted to one object—attached exclusively to the Right Path—always avoiding the wrong one.

'Wajh', literally face. In Qur'an mostly used signifying the distinctive aspects of a being by which the being is recognized—man is distinguished by his cognitive self—God is distinguished by His Absolute Universal Excellence which is manifest throughout [as described] in 2:115 [And God's is the East and the West, therefore whithersoever ye turn ye find the face of God; Verily God is All-Pervading, and All-Knowing].

'Millat-e-Ibrahim' repeatedly used in the Qur'an indicating the universality of his mission."

How can we be attached to the Right Path?

Let us reflect upon the following ayat from the Holy Qur'an and the associated footnote:

"Recite1772 thou (O' Our Apostle Muhammad!) that which hath been revealed unto thee of the Book and establish prayer; verily prayer restraineth (one) from filth and evil; and certainly the remembrance of God is the greatest (duty of the believers); and God knoweth what ye do."

(Source: S. V. Mir Ahmed Ali's translation of the Holy Qu'ran, p.1198)

Footnote 1772

"Though the address here is to the Holy Prophet, every believer in God comes under this ordinance. Prayer is the remembrance of God. In prayer the individual realises the presence of God or it brings consciousness of the presence and the glory of the Lord and the individual's being nothing, through which realisation the individual gets into communion with the absolute reality and it naturally purges the individual of everything evil, in word and action. This would naturally have a great purifying effect on the practical life of the individual.

An active realisation of the existence of the All-Divine Almighty and All-Knowing Being, would automatically restrain the individual earning His displeasure. It make the individual naturally realise that, only through goodness or imbibing the divine attributes, he can earn communion with the All-Divine Lord by which a mortal gets qualified for rise to the heights of the heavenly bliss.

The Holy Prophet said that "the one who is regular in the prescribed daily prayers would one day get restraint against evil." The Holy Imam Jafar ibne Muhammad As-Sadiq said "any one of our Shias (i.e., devotees of the Holy Ahul-Bait) who does not recognize the importance of 'Salat', i.e., (the prescribed daily prayers) 'Namaz' has denied our rights (in other words has ceased to be our devotee)" The same Imam has said that "he who wishes to know if his prayers have been accepted by God, should find out in himself how far his prayers have restrained him from evil. His prayers are accepted only to the extent they have effective in disciplining him and have kept him away from evil."

The Holy Imam Jafar ibne Muhammad As-Sadiq said: "Our Shias are those who when alone do remember God the most." Abu-Khadri reports that the Holy Prophet said that "wherever God is remembered the angels also attend the assembly and God forgives the sins of those who take active part in it and also those who remain silence audience to it." And God knows every act of everyone to reward everyone according to the personal merits of one's belief and action."

This is the best prescription for the purification of one's heart and preventing one from committing any sin, i.e., the recitation of Qur'an, keeping up prayer but the greatest of all the means is the remembrance of God."

The Importance of Spiritual Obligations

In the context of the above knowledge, let us reflect on the guidance of Noor Mowlana Hazar Imam:

"...serious attention has been necessary to improve the living conditions of the Jamat and your children, and in the future of your grandchildren and great grandchildren. But this does not mean that you must be unaware of your spiritual obligations, that you should not say your prayers when you are told to say your prayers, that you should not practise Bandagi when you should practice Bandagi, that you should not meet the responsibilities and the duties which you have to the Jamat and to the Imam.

And what I am saying to my spiritual children this morning is that he or she who forsakes either of the two responsibilities which are placed on you the day your are born—the responsibilities to fulfil your material and your spiritual lives—is making a mistake. And I felt it important to remind you today of this duality of the life in which we live and that you should fulfil both responsibilities."

Let us pray to NOOR Mowlana Hazar Imam to bestow upon us a life of external and internal peace and grace us with the spiritual enlightenment for continual guidance in our outer and inner dimensions. Ameen.
