"Fain would they put out the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light however much the disbelievers are averse." — Holy Qur'an 61:8
Ya Qadir, Ya Nasir, Ya Tauba, Ya Salaam
According to the following hadith of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), all human beings commit sins, but the real believers repent for their sins and seek forgiveness from the Merciful Lord1:
"Anas reported God's messenger as saying, "All the sons of Adam are sinners, but the best of sinners are those who are given to repentance."
Believers are on a path of continual improvement. People do make mistakes, but believers analyze their mistakes and take positive actions to correct them. This examination is critical for creating purity in each and every action. In this way, believers develop a lifestyle which is firmly grounded in the principles of faith. Great believers follow the path of religion with insight because they understand the nature of outward and inward sins, and strive to remain pure and humble. However, as they are also human, they commit sins and have to seek forgiveness from Allah on a continual basis.
The Qur'an teaches us to continually seek forgiveness of sins and mercy of Allah. Allah continually elevates believers through His knowledge and mercy and loves believers who are firm in their practice of faith and seek forgiveness continually as described in the following hadith of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)2:
"(Hazrat) Ali reported God's messenger as saying, "God loves the believing servant who is severely tried and is penitent."
Let us now recite this prayer with humility, courage and conviction:
Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim
In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ya Qadir, Ya Nasir, Ya Tauba, Ya Salaam
O Powerful, O Helper, O Forgiver, O the Source of Peace
Al-hamdu lillahi rabbil 'alamin.
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds!
