Noor Mowlana Murtaza Ali's (a.s.) Insight on Idd-ul Fitr

Ya Ali Madad! This post has two parts:

Part 1: Knowledge Section

Let us reflect deeply on the following sayings of NOOR Mowlana Murtaza Ali (a.s.) which have been extracted from a book entitled 'Peak of Eloquence NAHJUL BALAGHA'—Sermons, Letters and Sayings of Imam Ali ibn Abu Talib, published by Tahrike Tarsile Qur'an, Sixth U.S. Edition 1996. In today's post, let us examine the following gems of wisdom on the topics of Idd, purity, charity, generosity, Zakat, prayers and gratitude.

Quotation Number 1

Amir al-mu'minin, peace be upon him, said on the occasion of an Idd (Muslim feast day):
"It is an Idd for him whose fasting Allah accepts and for whose prayers He is grateful; and (in fact) every day wherein no sin of Allah is committed is an Idd."

*If feeling and conscience is alive even the remembrance of sin destroys peace of mind because tranquility and happiness are achieved only when the spirit is free from the burden of sin and one's robe is not polluted with disobedience. And this real happiness is not bound by time, but on whatever day a man desires he can avoid sin and enjoy this happiness, and this very happiness will be the real happiness and harbinger (i.e., indicator) of Idd.
 

Quotation Number 2

Amir al-mu'minin, peace be upon him, said:
"It is not that Allah, to Whom belongs Might and Majesty, may keep the door of gratitude open for a person and close the door of plenty to him, or to open the door of prayer to a person and close the door of acceptance upon him, or to open the door of repentance on a person and close the door of forgiveness upon him."

Quotation Number 3

Amir al-mu'minin, peace be upon him, said:
"Seek livelihood by giving alms."

Amir al-mu'minin, peace be upon him, said:
"He who is sure of a good return is generous in giving."

Amir al-mu'minin, peace be upon him, said:
"Protect your belief by charity; guard your wealth by paying Allah's share; and ward off the waves of calamity by praying."

Quotation Number 6

Amir al-mu'minin, peace be upon him, said:
"Even if Allah had not warned of chastisement on those disobedient to Him, it would be obligatory by way of gratefulness for His favours that He should not be disobeyed."

Key Insights:

  1. Idd ul-Fitr is a great day of happiness for all Muslims because it comes after the month of Ramadan—a month of ardent prayers, fasting and reflection. Noor Mowlana Murtaza Ali (a.s.) teaches us that to abstain from committing sins is also an Idd. Thus, a devout mum'in creates a consciousness which is focused on the pleasure of God. This method virtually eliminates the acts through which sins are committed.
     
  2. We should do our best to show gratitude to our Holy Imam who has spent his whole life for our material, spiritual and intellectual upliftment. For practical purposes, gratitude is measured by the degree of obedience, thus it is a good idea to listen or read firmans and assess the degree of one's obedience.
     
  3. We can also use the following yardstick from the Holy Qur'an:
     

    "Those who show patience, firmness and self-control; who are true (in word and deed); who worship devoutly; who spend (in the way of God); and who pray for forgiveness in the early hours of the morning."

Part 2. Angelic Salwat
Let us recite angelic salwats to invoke Divine grace and mercy.
