Eighth Night of Holy Ramadan :: Saturday, September 30, 2006

Ya Ali Madad and Ramadan Mubarak! The 24-hour clock the Muslim calendar starts sunset, therefore, Saturday, September 30, 2006 is the eighth night of the Holy Ramadan for Ismailis in Canada. This posting for this auspicious eighth night of Holy Ramadan has four parts:   1. Ta'wil of selected words from the Holy Qur'an; 2. A verse from beautiful ginans of our Holy Pirs; 3. A different dhikr tasbi for each night; and 4. A list of pertinent web resources for this project.   Part 1: Tawil of the word 'Dhikr ar-Rahman' (The remembrance of the Compassionate God) "It is mentioned in verse (43:36); "And whoever goes blind to the remembrance of Rahman, We assign unto him a devil who becomes his close companion." This is the negative aspect of the human condition. The positive aspect is that a mu'min should remember Rahman abundantly, so that an angel may be assigned to him. Indeed, the exegesis of the verse is the Hadith in which the holy Prophet says that every hear has two ears: near one there is a devil and near the other, an angel." [Source: Tawil 360: A Thousand Wisdoms] (Page 195) Part 2: Teaching of Pir Shams In the following verse of ginan from Pir Shams's Kesri si(n)h svaroop bhulaayo teach us that 'Ali is now and Ali is forever': Eji Kesri si(n)h svaroop bhulaayo Aja kere sange aja hoi rahyo Ese bharam-me(n) jivanku(n) bhulaayo Bharam sab chhodi bhai Ali Ali karna Hay bi Ali ne hoyse bi Ali Esa vachan tame dil maa(n)he dharna Esa vachan tame dil maa(n)he dharna Bharam sab chhodi bhai Ali Ali karna   O Brother The lion forgot its lionish form, and in the company of goats it lived as a goat. In such delusion life's purpose is forgotten. Forsaking all delusion, brother, keep reciting the name of Ali. 'Ali is now and Ali will be' are the words you should take to heart. Such are the words you should take to heart. These verses of supplication soften, heal and purify the soul, and prepare it for enlightenment.   Part 3 Power Prayers: A Different Dhikr Tasbi for Each Night   Let us refer to ta'wil of the word 'Ism a'zam (Supreme Name of God): "Imam Jafar as-Sâdiq has said: "Allah has concealed one name, i.e., the supreme Name and He has 360 names." (Lughât, Sin, p. 175). The supreme Name or the great secret is in two forms: as a word and as a person. As a word, it is "al-hayy'l-qayyûm" (the Everling, the Everlasting) (2:255); 3:2) and as a person it is the True Guide, i.e., the Prophet and Imam of the time (See Wajh, p. 124-29." There is no God save Him, the Alive, the Eternal) is the first sentence of Ayatul Kursi, the most important ayat of the Holy Qur'an 2:255). From Ismaili point of view, we say that the beloved NOOR Mowlana Hazir Imam is living and his Noor is eternal. Therefore, today we will implore him with this most powerful prayer. Now let us use a bouquet of Yâ Hayyul, Yâ Qayyum Tasbi for tonight's session. A'uzu billahi minashaitanir rajim I seek refuge in Allah from the outcast Satan.
