:: Candle Post #72 :: Why Should We Only Obey NOOR Mowlana Hazar Imam? ::

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim
In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

Ya Ali Madad! I have taken a sufi story from the book entitled "When you hear hoofbeats think of a zebra" by Shems Friedlander and have augmented it with an ayat from the Holy Qur'an and its Ismaili tawil with the hope that these will increase our conviction in the belief of our true Imam who is present and living (Noor Mowlana Hazar Imam).

Part 1: The Sufi Story:

Let us first read the story about 'The Search for Truth' (pages 79-80):

"There's a story about a sheikh who was walking with one of his murids, near a huge field. In the field there was a man who was digging holes. The man had dug two hundred holes two feet deep. Observing this, the murid asked, "O my sheikh, what is he doing?"

"I don't know. Let us ask him," the sheikh answered. They called him over, and asked what was the purpose of digging so many holes just two feet deep.

"I'm looking for water," the man said.

The sheikh told him, "It's unlikely that you will find water by digging two hundred holes that are only two feet deep. You have a better chance of finding water if you dig one hole two hundred feet deep."

When you choose a path, if your heart responds to that path, whatever it might be, and you have a true teacher, dig in that hole. By jumping from one path to another, you may touch the periphery of a lot of things, but you'll just obtain surface knowledge. Accepting a path is a commitment. It is like digging a two-hundred-foot-deep hole. When you dig one hole, when you accept one teaching, whatever it might be, you also have to understand that in digging that hole there are many obstacles. You'll find stones, stumpts, roots, mud, and clay. At times it will be easy and at times it will be difficult. If you keep on digging, and the path is true, with help of Allah you will find water. You will come to knowledge and the Truth.

This is important to realize, because for many years there have been many offerings. But once you've decided on a Path, dig it until you're certain that it's not for you or you've found the Truth. The search for Truth is often more important than the Truth itself."

Part 2: Pertinent Ayat from the Holy Qur'an

"Ya maAAshara aljinni waal-insi ini istataAAtum an tanfuthoo min aqtari alssamawati waal-ardi faonfuthoo la tanfuthoona illa bisultanin"
(Holy Qur'an 55:33)

"O ye assembly of Jinns and men! If it be ye can pass beyond the zones of the heavens and the earth, pass ye! not without authority shall ye be able to pass!"

Part 3: Ta'wil of words 'Abwâb al-Jannah' (The eight gates of paradise):

"Study carefully verse (55:33) in which is mentioned the journey of the spiritual heavens and earth. This journey, although it is extremely difficult, is not impossible. You can accomplish this journey through "sultan". "Sultan" means guide, proof, power, overpowering, authority or king, namely the Imam, in whom all useful meanings are encompassed. That is to say that, it is the luminous recognition of the Imam which encompasses everything."

Synthesis:

Each one of us has follow the firmans of the Holy Imam with conviction and practice dhikr and bandagi so the doors to the spiritual and luminous worlds open up. Real success lies in making the inward journey from the physical world through the spiritual and luminous worlds into the world of oneness under the guidance of the True Imam. This path also leads to the creation of Sunshine in one's heart and a Golden Noorani Didar in one's forehead.

Prayer without action becomes pride. Good actions, piety, submission of dasond and enlightenment generate fuel within ourselves which would propel our souls into the spiritual and luminous worlds. Therefore, let us act and pray to become first category pure mu'mins like Salmân-i Fârsi in the time of our present and living Imam, NOOR Mowlana Shah Karim Al-Hussaini (a.s.).
